A drought tolerant plant, it is a great selection for the Southern California garden.
Native Americans, always resourceful, mixed the Blue Blossom flowers with water to create a soapy detergent. The flexible wood of some species was utilized for basket making.
I’d like to thank Gail of the SB Botanic Garden and Snowdy of the California Native Plant Society-LA/Santa Monica Mountains Chapter for identification help.
As always I welcome corrections and additional information.
The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden is a wonderful place to unwind while enjoying the beauty of nature and learning about native plants. Plan a visit soon…you’ll be glad you did!
